So last week I decided to say "PLEASE" and/or "THANK YOU" even when it wasn't needed, here's what happened. I entered a business needing personal services, walked into a heated exchange between the employer and employee over business matters (and that's putting it lightly). As I curiously/patiently waited and when they noticed me, I said "please conclude your business as I can wait". They concluded after a little bit, the employer then turned to me, I said, oh thanks, made my request. As the services were concluded, I said "Thank you so much for doing this, how much do I owe you?" To my surprise, the reply, NO CHARGE! Went to gas station, waiting in a long line behind the most restless people and the cashier wasn't looking too pleasant. Customer before me was rude to the cashier so of course the cashier was expecting the same from me. I approached, I asked for items with a "please"& "thank you", the cashier was so shocked and frazzled that she almost forgot to charge me for my items and was about to give me her bank roll of $20's for change on $10 purchase!
I know, this isn't a revelation but I must admit it interesting to see if anyone noticed (most of the time they didn't). I'm not going to give up on the power of "PLEASE" & "THANK YOU" but for now, you're welcome.
